TIGI Catwalk was all over the place at Spring Fashion Week, and the TIGI team created tons of inspiring looks. One in particular—a style they whipped up at Maisonette 1977—is a chic, feminine option for the holidays. “The look represents a romantic, European lady with hair that’s loose, undone and pretty,” says DJ Riggs. To create this style on your clients, start by spraying hair at the crown with Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray to provide thickness and texture, then blow dry. Next, brush the top section back and create a twist in the center of the head to prep the section for loose waves. Separate the hair into layers and spray with Session Series Work It Hairspray, then French braid the hair toward the crown. The braid starts out smaller and tighter, then gets chunkier and looser in the middle, and then becomes tight at the bottom again, giving it a fishtail effect. To finish, spray the braid with Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo for a messier, natural look, then blow dry the braid so it “swells.” Learn the Exaggerated Ponytail how-to from TIGI Catwalk.

Every season, we scour the fashion runways with the hope of spotting brilliant new ‘dos and inspiration. And we spotted quite a little gem at the Dolce & Gabbanna show during Milan Fashion Week, where Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a classic twist inspired by Italian actress Sophia Loren. “We pulled the hair loosely back into a French twist and it looks a bit as if the woman was dancing all night,” Guido explains. “It’s effortlessly gorgeous.” To create the look, apply Thickening Lotion 06 to damp hair and rough dry without a brush (to maintain natural texture) until hair is 90 percent dry. Next, apply Tousle Whip 04 Soft Texturizing Cream-Wax throughout the front of the hair to enhance natural movement and let it air dry the last 10 percent. Beginning at the nape of the neck and working upwards, backcomb the hair for added texture. Finger comb hair back away from the face and pull hair back into a French twist, securing with bobby pins. Make sure to keep the hair loose around the face (not pulled back too tight), so you can see the natural movement of the hair texture. Finish with Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray. If pressed to describe the Emporio Armani show during Milan Fashion Week in one phrase, we would say “back in black!” The show featured Armani’s signature look—black—from head to toe, and it looked young and cool. But if we were granted a few more words to describe the show, we’d HAVE to talk about the hair that legendary stylist Oribe created. He created perfect, clean blow-outs on all the models, and the simple style added a modern, chic finish to the show. “I took tremendous amounts of direction from Mr. Armani,” Oribe said. “He wanted styles that were modern, and he wanted hair that real girls could do.” To create this “real-girl” style, Oribe blew out the hair using Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray. “The look was about smooth, beautiful shine,” he explained. If the hair started to feel too stiff, Oribe used his Royal Blowout on the ends to create soft separation. “Some of the models wore small spy-style hats,” he told us, “so I twisted the hair up into the hat with just one pin. Each model’s hair was different, so I let pieces of hair fall out naturally.” Enter to WIN a ticket to Oribe Backstage Las Vegas ($395 value)! -

Philip Pelusi is a backstage staple at New York Fashion Week. His presence and incredible styling have been a constant year after year, especially for designers Lorick and Venexiana. For their recent Fall Fashion Week shows, Philip created informal and casual “loose updos” to complement each of their carefree collections. This look is very elegant, modern and a bit “less-than-perfect” compared to your common updo. To get the look, allow the hair to air-dry or use a diffuser to create texture. Consider utilizing a texture iron to create depth and dimension. Next, pull the hair back into a low, nape-level loose updo. Leave the outer perimeter of the hair out to create that loose, tousled look. Finish with a medium hold spray and remember “not-perfect” will look absolutely perfect. New York Fashion Week is right around the corner and we’re predicting the ponytail will get tons of play on the runways. Alterna’s Global Creative Director Michael Shaun Corby demonstrates a fun, playful pony that’s sure to get your creative Fashion Week juices flowing. First, prep towel-dried hair with Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil then work Caviar Anti-Aging Radiant Smoothing Lotion into damp hair from roots to ends. Next, blow-dry hair with a round brush until the hair is completely dry. Focus on lifting the hair at the roots and away from the face to create lots of height and volume. Divide the hair in half by creating a horizontal part from ear to ear. Pull the back section into a sleek, tight ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Next, take the sides and pull them tightly into the band. Lightly tease the top section, smooth then pull back gently and wrap it around the elastic band to conceal it. Support the style with Caviar Anti-Aging Working Hairspray. Get a FREE Deluxe Sample of Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil!
