A slick and sleek ponytail is one trend that will never go to the wayside. To put her twist on a classic style, Diva Poulos, a member of the Sebastian Design Team, created this look called “Whiplash.” It’s severe yet fun and full of infinite sass. “By slicking the hair back and gathering into a tight top ponytail, you’re able to showcase the movement and the shine in two completely different ways,” she shares. To get the look, apply Sebastian Professional Potion 9 Liteand Sebastian Professional Gel Forte to damp hair. Blow dry with a flat, soft brush. Once dry, spraySebastian Professional Trilliant to the bottom third of hair for thermal protection and flat iron the ends. Next, brush hair up into a high and tight ponytail, taking hair section by section and sprayingSebastian Professional Shaper to the roots to maintain a light-weight hold. Lastly, wrap and pin a piece of hair around the elastic using Sebastian Professional Shaper Plus and smooth over with a brush, pulling hair very tight at the top of the head. Learn another cocktailing how-to from Sebastian Professional!

Ponytail pro Neil Moodie, part of the Bumble and bumble roster of Editorial Hairdressers, offers some sage advice on one of the simplest ways to get one of fall’s most popular looks—sleek and streamlined hair. First, pay close attention to placement. “Positioning the ponytail at the nape of the neck will make for a strong, slightly somber look,” Neil explains. “A higher placement looks perky, more casual and will let hair swing more freely. Also, the appearance at the front of the head can have as much impact as the ponytail itself. “Adding a side part can instill a bit of masculinity while covering the ears will give a romantic feel and hint of the ‘60s,” Neil says. Finally, texture can alter the severity of the look. “Try diffusing hair at the top of the head to get a slight wave,” suggests Neil. “Then blow dry the side and back sections smooth for a bit of softness without losing the shape of the head.” Learn how to become part of the Bb. Network!

New York Fashion Week is right around the corner and we’re predicting the ponytail will get tons of play on the runways. Alterna’s Global Creative Director Michael Shaun Corby demonstrates a fun, playful pony that’s sure to get your creative Fashion Week juices flowing. First, prep towel-dried hair with Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil then work Caviar Anti-Aging Radiant Smoothing Lotion into damp hair from roots to ends. Next, blow-dry hair with a round brush until the hair is completely dry. Focus on lifting the hair at the roots and away from the face to create lots of height and volume. Divide the hair in half by creating a horizontal part from ear to ear. Pull the back section into a sleek, tight ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Next, take the sides and pull them tightly into the band. Lightly tease the top section, smooth then pull back gently and wrap it around the elastic band to conceal it. Support the style with Caviar Anti-Aging Working Hairspray. Get a FREE Deluxe Sample of Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil!

    •    Do you like ponytails?

Posted by admin on 11.11.10 1 comment

If you like to wear you hair in a ponytail for whatever reason (because you have no time to style it or just because)… if you are going to wear your hair in a ponytail then wear it like a runway model. Here are three (3) ways you can wear your hair in a ponytail and still look sexy and like a runway model, after all who said ponytails are boring…

      • The cheerleader pony

You don’t have to have spirit fingers or carry pom-poms to try this ponytail DO. Freida Pinto looks fresh and sophisticated with this simple slicked-back high ponytail. For a bump-free top, try spraying a bristle brush with hairspray before combing hair back to tame kinks and flyaways. Turn up the volume on this classic style like Pinto does on the red carpet with sexy black liner and pretty pink lips.

      • The messy braid

Kate Hudson embodies the comfortable-chic look, and her pony is no exception—a messy braid with loose layers in the front works with her bohemian style. To amp up the glam factor, try adding a little volume at the top by teasing the crown like Hudson does here.

      • Tie up your tail

This look is as easy as it is glamorous. “The front of the hair gives the impression of a chignon,” says Barex style-team leader Odile Gilbert about this slicked-back look, “but the back is a ponytail.” Start by giving your hair a side part and running a pomade, like Barex Gum Gum, through to define and smooth flyaways, then secure the pony near the top of the head with an elastic. Gilbert attaches the ponytail to the nape of the neck by threading elastic string through both sections, but you can use two large bobby pins for the same effect. Finish with a shine spray to keep your pony looking sleek.

If you need and help come to the hair salon in El Dorado Hills, Salorah Beauty Boutique or call me and schedule an appointment and I can help you style your hair, or cut and color and then style!
