Sunday night’s Golden Globes saw stars “Puttin’ on the Ritz” for their red carpet photo ops and American Horror Story’s Connie Britton looked anything but horrifying in her vintage gown and tousled waves. Solo Artists’ Charles Dujic created the look by applying Bumble and bumble Surf Spray to the roots of her damp hair, then added Moroccanoil to the lengths and ends for moisture and sheen. “I blow dried her hair using a large round brush, and in preparation for the set, I sprayed her hair section by section with Bb. Spray De Mode,” Charles explains. Next, he set just the top and crown in large Velcro rollers to lock in some lift at the root, and then set the rest of her hair with a 1¼-inch barrel curling iron. “I alternated the iron in different directions so the waves would bounce off each other,” he adds. He removed the Velcro rollers and curled the hair “barrel style” with a 1½-inch iron for extra lift at the crown then flipped her hair over and shook it out, working Bb. Brilliantine into her hair with his hands. “She flipped her hair back over and I back-brushed it where the rollers were placed earlier, just at the root, and locked her look in place with another blast of Spray De Mode!” Get 10 more style how-tos from the Golden Globes!

Hopeless Romantic
TIGI Catwalk was all over the place at Spring Fashion Week, and the TIGI team created tons of inspiring looks. One in particular—a style they whipped up at Maisonette 1977—is a chic, feminine option for the holidays. “The look represents a romantic, European lady with hair that’s loose, undone and pretty,” says DJ Riggs. To create this style on your clients, start by spraying hair at the crown with Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray to provide thickness and texture, then blow dry. Next, brush the top section back and create a twist in the center of the head to prep the section for loose waves. Separate the hair into layers and spray with Session Series Work It Hairspray, then French braid the hair toward the crown. The braid starts out smaller and tighter, then gets chunkier and looser in the middle, and then becomes tight at the bottom again, giving it a fishtail effect. To finish, spray the braid with Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo for a messier, natural look, then blow dry the braid so it “swells.” Learn the Exaggerated Ponytail how-to from TIGI Catwalk.Category: [ Trend Watch ] -
Quick Change
Category: [ Trend Watch ]
When it comes to their hair, celebs are the ultimate quick change artists. One day their locks are cropped—a week later, they’re long and flowing. For an instant short-to-long makeover, celebrities rely on extensions, which was exactly what Christina Ricci did when she tired of her chin-length bob. Stylists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One salon in West Hollywood, California got busy and applied a full head of Great Lengths extensions for the star, completing the look with UNITE after care products. They began by sectioning the hair and applying the extensions strand-by-strand at the base of the nape. They continued sectioning the hair and applying the extensions, working up to the crown. Next, they determined the desired perimeter line and texturized the extensions to blend with the natural hair. Christina requested a mid-length, naturally blended cut with a fringe. To style, they sprayed the surface of the hair lightly with UNITE Shina-Mist for weightless shine. Finally, they flat ironed strands, keeping the iron an adequate distance from the bonds since heat can cause them to loosen. Enter to WIN 2 tickets to Unite Global Sessions in San Diego!
